How to Use Pop Out Cards

We’ve had a lot of positive feedback on our wooden pop-out cards, but some of you may be wondering what they are and what you do with them.

Pop-out cards are wooden greeting cards that have unique designs, decorations, or tokens that snap out for you to keep. We make them out of thin, laser engraved and cut plywood and have cards for different occasions – Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, teacher appreciation gifts to name a few. (We’re working on more designs, too!)

Here’s some ideas on how to use them!

  1. Give them as a fun diy gift for the craft loving people in your life
  2. Give them pre-colored, so all the recipient has to do is pop out and enjoy a token of your thoughtfulness
  3. Leave them as is – we think wood is beautiful on its own, too!
  4. Wrap it with a gift card to add an extra level of thoughtfulness
  5. Tuck it in a gift bag in place of a regular paper card
  6. Mail it in a bubble mailer to your friends/family*
  7. Write a note on the back (markers and pencils both work great!)

*We recommend either a bubble mailer with some cardboard for stability, or a cardboard mailer with some bubble wrap tucked around them.

As far as the actual process of sprucing it up, here’s the 3 simple steps:

Add Some Color

You can use markers, colored pencils, or paint. Our favorite material is watered down acrylic craft paint. The thinning allows for even painting and a little woodgrain to pop through. (Plus, if you make a mistake, you can always just paint over it!) But really any method will look great.

Pop It Out

Start by carefully bending at the small tabs in the design until it breaks free. For extra assurance you will get a break, we recommend scoring the tabs with craft knife before bending.

Put it Together

Depending on the style of the card/craft, the design may simply just fit together, or you may need to add some string or do some additional gluing.

(And just fyi, all cards will come with this handy instruction sheet for your gift-giving convenience.)
